An overturned tractor-trailer shut down I-75 South at the I-675 interchange in Henry County on Wednesday night, prompting heavy delays in the area.

Drivers are advised to use I-675 South, U.S. 41 and U.S. 23 as alternates.

The crash was one of several that occurred on metro Atlanta’s interstates Wednesday evening as heavy rain from Tropical Storm Sally swept through North Georgia.

In Atlanta, a wreck on the inner loop at Cascade Road blocked one right lane, while another crash on I-75 South at Northside Drive shut down several lanes shortly before midnight, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Several trees were also knocked over in the storm, including one that blocked Briarcliff Road in DeKalb County.

On Wednesday afternoon, one man was killed in southwest Atlanta when a large tree split in half and fell through a home, according to Atlanta Fire Rescue.

A flash flood watch is in effect for most of North Georgia until 8 a.m. Friday.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said showers are expected to intensify overnight and into Thursday morning, dumping between 3 and 6 inches of rain on metro Atlanta. Some areas south of I-20 could see as much as 8 inches of rainfall by morning, he said.
