Chillier weather was expected to pass through metro Atlanta and North Georgia behind a cold front that moved through the region. Channel 2 Action News meteorologists predicted temperatures at midday would be 17 degrees colder than they were at the same time Friday.
Forecasters were calling for sunny but breezy conditions for the noon kickoff Saturday at Sanford Stadium in Athens for the annual gridiron showdown between the University of Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The game will be carried on ESPN.
“Temperatures [will be] right around 50 degrees by kickoff, and it’ll only get into the low 50s during the course of the afternoon,” meteorologist David Chandley said. Even colder temperatures are likely in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Alabama-Auburn game. Temperatures were predicted to be in the mid-40s to 50.
By Sunday, temperatures in metro Atlanta are expected to climb to the mid-50s, with another day of clear skies and breezy conditions. The forecast calls for nighttime lows in the low to mid-30s, although some parts of metro Atlanta outside the Perimeter could see temperatures dip into the upper 20s early Sunday.
Clouds will return Monday and rain is possible by Tuesday. But temperatures on Tuesday are predicted to rise into the low 60s, followed by nighttime lows in the 40s.
