Authorities have recovered a pick-up truck that a Hall County jail inmate used to escape Tuesday, but he remained on the loose.
The truck was recovered by Atlanta police about 4 p.m. Wednesday on Ethridge Street, said Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Meanwhile, the escapee — identified as James Edward Cantrell, 46 — remained on the run late Wednesday.
Cantrell is believed to have concealed himself in the alcove of a locked doorway as he was leaving a court hearing about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Wilbanks said.
Cantrell was in court on charges that he violated a temporary protective order, stemming from a felony battery charge. He made his getaway in the truck, which was parked nearby and had the keys in the ignition, Wilbanks said.
Cantrell is described as black, 6 feet tall and 205 pounds. He has multiple tattoos and was last seen in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.
Officials with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office are warning the public not to have any contact with him and to call 9-1-1 or 770-536-8812 with information on his location.
