Following a string of storms in the Atlanta area, the worst of the weather seems to be on its way out. Today’s forecast calls for scattered storms and highs in the upper 80s.

Tornado confirmed in Troup. Topping off several nights of storms, the National Weather Service confirmed there was a tornado in Troup County around 2 a.m. today that uprooted more than 50 trees. Three cars and a greenhouse were destroyed by falling trees, along with several houses being damaged. No injuries were reported.

Scattered showers. After Saturday night's rain, today's forecast is much drier. Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz predicts partly cloudy weather through out the day with highs near 90 and a 40 percent chance of scattered showers. Heavy rainfall totaling almost a quarter of an inch late Saturday night wrapped up the worst of this week's stormy weather in the metro area, he said.

Coming up. Despite the decreased chance of severe storms, the National Weather Service reports a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms through out the week — 30 percent on Monday and Tuesday — so be on the lookout.
