There was no waiting when Deva Gouss came Tuesday to a public library that was doing double duty as a polling place for Atlanta city and school board elections.

Nor at most polling places around town.

By mid-day, turnout was reported as light in most parts of town.

Gouss was enthusiastic about voting.

“I was all into it,” she said, standing outside the Ponce de Leon branch of Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.

Gouss said she voted for Mayor Kasim Reed and candidates she thought would work best with him.

She said she votes in every election.

Milton Jones, a regional sales manager for AT&T, shared a similar sentiment. He said it’s important that the city have elected officials who can help Atlanta keep moving in a positive direction.

Reed may be the best known name on Tuesday’s ballot. But 26 people also are running for seats on the Atlanta School Board. One of their first priorities will be the selection of a replacement to retiring Superintendent Erroll Davis Jr.

Davis replaced Superintendent Beverly Hall on July 1, 2011 amid an increasing public outcry over allegations of widespread test cheating during Hall’s tenure.
