Atlanta rallies planned after Ferguson decision

One day after a Missouri grand jury declined to indict a white officer who fatally shot an unarmed black teenager, Atlantans Tuesday announced news conferences, peaceful protests and other demonstrations across the metro area.

About 100 students were joined by Atlanta City Councilmen Ceaser Mitchell and Michael Julian Bond at Clark Atlanta University center. Read about the gathering here.

The Atlanta Police Department held a news briefing Tuesday in advance of protests set for the evening. "We have had no indication that we will have any types of concerns today," said APD Deputy Police Chief C.J. Davis. Read the article here.

Here are some of the known gatherings:

5 p.m.: #SHUTITDOWNATL

What: Described as a 'community speak out,' this peaceful rally will run until 9 p.m.

Where: Underground Atlanta, 50 Central Ave. SW

6 p.m.: Reflection about Ferguson

What: The Center for Civic Innovation will open its doors from 6 to 9 p.m. for individuals to reflect upon the decision. Organizers will have paper posted around the center for individuals to express their feelings. Those thoughts will be delivered to local decision makers in Atlanta.

Next week, organizers plan to convene the community to have “a constructive discussion on moving forward.”

"We aim to create a space for safe, respectful, and open conversation around emotional and consequential topics," organizers of the event wrote on their Facebook page.

7 p.m.: #HANDSUP ATL

What: An emergency "demo" in response to the Darren Wilson Indictement, accoding to a Facebook event page.

Where: Woodruff Park, 91 Peachtree NE.
