The same day Atlanta police announced an arrest in connection with the death of a man on the Downtown Connector, officials dropped the charges.

Police said Wednesday that Lee Watts had been arrested for driving with an expired license and homicide by vehicle in the second degree. Hours later, police said the charges against Watts had been dropped, but no additional information was provided.

The man who was struck and killed had not been identified as of late Wednesday.

Just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, a vehicle struck the unidentified man as he attempted to cross I-75/85 South near Courtland Street, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said. Investigators do not know why the man, who died at the scene, was walking on the interstate.

The fatal wreck temporarily blocked all southbound lanes in the area.

The accident remains under investigation.
