Atlanta police Wednesday continued to investigate two fatal overnight shootings that occurred hours apart.

In the first incident, a man was shot and killed near the intersection of Auburn and Piedmont avenues in downtown Atlanta.

“We don’t believe it was random,” said Capt. Paul Guerrucci, Atlanta police homicide unit commander. “We believe that the victim was specifically targeted for one reason or another.”

The man, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as Deonte Rogers, 26, was transported from the scene to a hospital, where he died, Guerrucci said.

At least two suspects were seen running from the scene, he said.

A couple of hours after that shooting, homicide detectives were called to a southwest Atlanta intersection where a man was found shot to death inside a car.

The victim in that shooting, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as Antonio Clements, 29, of Atlanta, was found shortly before midnight Tuesday inside a silver Kia along the curb at Campbellton and Stanton roads, according to Atlanta police dispatchers.

Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.
