Arrests have been made in two homicides committed since May, Atlanta police said Thursday.

Maurice Nesbitt, 35, was arrested Thursday in connection with the slaying of Rashawn Jackson, 34, who was found dead May 27 in her unit at the Venetian Hills Apartment complex in the 1800 block of Campbellton Road.

Channel 2 Action News reported that Jackson was shot in the head after answering a knock on her door.

“We don’t believe that this is a random act,” Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “We believe that whoever did this, they knew each other.”

In a separate case, Jeremy Johnson, 17, and Santon Smith, 20, were apprehended in Montgomery, Alabama, in connection with the death of Stephon Thomas, 18. Warrants were issued for their arrests June 25. The fugitives were transported to Atlanta on Wednesday.

Thomas was found shot to death June 14 in the driveway of a residence in the 200 block of Polar Rock Road, according to Channel 2.

Atlanta police believe the shooting was not random. Based on a preliminary investigation, the shooting seems to have occurred after an altercation at a gathering that night, according to police.
