An Atlanta police officer was in serious condition early Sunday after being shot in the face and leg.

The off-duty officer, whose name was not released, was working a second job at an apartment complex on Hardee Street when he was shot around 10 p.m. Saturday, according to Officer Kim Jones with Atlanta police.

“While the officer was working this job, he was ambushed by a suspect that was carrying a shotgun,” Jones said in an emailed statement. “The suspect fired at the officer, striking him in the face and leg.”

The officer was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was in serious condition.

The search continued for the suspect, according to police.
