DeKalb County plans to give out boxes of free food at distribution events this weekend to help families facing food insecurity.

In partnership with Atlanta Community Food Bank, the county plans to set up food distributions at local churches this Friday and Saturday. Officials plan to provide 1,350 boxes of food to DeKalb residents.

The food giveaway events are scheduled for:

  • Friday, July 17:
    • 10 a.m. at Antioch AME Church, 4730 Elam Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30083
    • 1 p.m. at Welcome Friend Baptist Church, 3198 Bouldercrest Road, Ellenwood, GA 30294
  • Saturday, July 18:
    • 10 a.m. at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Road, Stonecrest, GA 30038

The drive-thru distributions are the byproduct of DeKalb’s $600,000 partnership with the food bank to expand food giveaways during the coronavirus pandemic, as a growing number of residents face food insecurity.

Each box of food will contain 15 to 20 pounds of produce, dairy and shelf-stable items. It will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Each car will be able to receive one package.
