It’s “amnesty week” in Atlanta’s Municipal Court, meaning someone with an unpaid fine can resolve their case without fear of being arrested, officials said.

The program runs from Monday, May 24 to Thursday, May 27, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a flyer.

The court, which handles traffic violations and minor criminal offenses, will often issue a warrant for someone’s arrest if they fail to show up for a court date. If the person visits the Municipal Court during amnesty week, though, they can pay their citation and resolve their case without being arrested or having to pay additional failure-to-appear fees.

The initiative, which several other metro Atlanta cities have implemented, also helps the city cut down on its court backlog that grew during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Atlanta Municipal Court is located downtown at 150 Garnett St.
