Norcross residents should be on the lookout for a young bear.

A resident saw the woodland creature at the intersection of South Peachtree Street and Jimmy Carter Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon and called police, said Lt. Robert Braud.

Officers contacted Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources to handle the situation, Braud said. The agency was unsuccessful in relocating the bear yesterday, he said, as it was sighted again Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, the bear wandered into a wooded area after its appearance at the intersection. Law enforcement informed local businesses in the area about the sighting.

The department believes it’s a cub, Braud said, but no “mama bear” has been sighted. Officers saw a larger bear in the Gwinnett city about five or six years ago, he said. A bear was hit by a car while crossing Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in 2019.

Residents are advised to call 911 or the Norcross Police Department at 770-448-2111 if they see the bear.
