An Atlanta man received a life sentence in connection with the sexual abuse of his former girlfriend’s mentally disabled daughter.

David Sturgis, 43, was found guilty by a Fulton County jury Friday of aggravated child molestation and child molestation, which occurred between 2010 and May 2013, according to a news release from the office of Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr.

The girl’s mother called police June 4, 2013 and said the teen told her older sister that Sturgis had been performing various sexual acts on her for the past three years, according to the release. The girl was 13 and Sturgis was 40 when the abuse started.

He was sentenced to life, plus 10 years.
