They were first spotted in New York City. Then they were discovered in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
Now, the bright red street signs with lyrics from local rap artists are being discovered around Atlanta.
From Zoo Atlanta to the Clermont Lounge, more than 20 signs have been installed at locations referenced in the signs' lyrics.
Intended to inventory all site-specific rap lyrics, the signs are part of "The Rap Quotes," a street art project by New York City-based artist Jay Shells.
"Within minutes of starting the project, I knew quickly that I would go to multiple cities. It was only a matter of time before I came to Atlanta," Shells said.
For Shells, one of the most rewarding parts of the project is seeing firsthand how the music of local artists matches the personality of the city.
"Atlanta has a really nice, slowed-down, Southern vibe. The city feels like the music," Shells said. "The city reverberates with the music.”
Shells will take "The Rap Quotes" to several more cities this year before returning to Atlanta in the fall.
What Atlanta site do you think should be included in "The Rap Quotes"? Tell us about it in two bars of original (and clean) lyrics.
