1 arrested, 1 sought in fatal Gwinnett shooting

Gwinnett police have arrested one of two suspects in the shooting death of a bystander earlier this month.

Sherwin Johnson and Quinton Hall were charged with aggravated assault and felony murder in the April 14 death of 23-year-old Kevin Pierre, according to a news release from the Gwinnett County Police Department. Johnson, 34, was arrested Wednesday. Hall, 29, remains at large.

Police believe the events leading up to the fatal shooting began about 11:15 p.m. April 14 at the Bradford Gwinnett Apartments on Castor Drive in unincorporated Norcross. According to the release, there was a verbal dispute between acquaintances. Police do not believe Pierre was involved in the disagreement, which escalated into a physical fight. At some point, shots were fired. Pierre was hit by a stray bullet and left the scene before he collapsed, police said.

An officer found Pierre's dead body shortly after midnight in a wooded area near the 2000 block of Beaver Springs Lane.

Anyone with information on the location of Hall should call Crime Stoppers at 404-557-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimestoppersatlanta.org. Up to $2,000 in reward money is being offered for information leading to the capture of Hall. Tipsters can also call Gwinnett County homicide at 770-513-5300.
