An 18-year-old has confessed to killing a former NFL player in DeKalb County over the weekend, police said Thursday.

Antonio Deshun Faust, of a Decatur address, told police he’d never met 31-year-old David McMillian before getting a ride with him early Saturday, according to Sgt. W. L. Wallace with DeKalb police. Faust allegedly admitted he tried to rob McMillian and the two fought before Faust shot him, Wallace said.

According to witnesses, the two men fought outside of McMillian’s car. After firing shots, Faust ran, leaving McMillian to die in the roadway on Pine Hill Drive, police said.

Faust surrendered Tuesday and was charged with murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and theft by taking. He is being held in the DeKalb County jail without bond.

McMillian, a Hinesville native, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL draft. The linebacker played three seasons before being cut by the team before the 2008 season. He played college football at the University of Kansas.
