A SWAT standoff in Paulding County began Monday after a man fired a gunshot at deputies.

Police say it started with a call about a suicidal man at a home in an Acworth neighborhood.

Deputies were called to the house for a wellness check just before noon on Monday. They say there was a man threatening suicide. As they walked the perimeter of the home, a shot was fired. One deputy sustained a minor injury, but it’s not known whether it was from a bullet or something else.

SWAT team arrived on the scene and tried to speak with the man.

“For this neighborhood it’s very odd. It’s a quiet neighborhood but you know it is what it is so you can’t do anything about it. Hopefully everybody is okay,” neighbor David Heege said.

Police say there was no one else inside the home.
