The Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association announced late Thursday that the spring season is canceled due to coronavirus fears.

“After long and careful deliberation, it is with great regret that ALTA has decided to suspend this spring season out of an abundance of caution, so that our organization will not take any chance of contributing to the spread of COVID-19,” ALTA President Sandy Depa stated in an email.

Founded in 1934, ALTA offers various leagues for both children and adults and has approximately 80,000 members.

Earlier Thursday, some women’s teams kicked off their spring seasons. Other leagues were to begin play this weekend.

“We hope with this action, the spread of the COVID-19 virus will diminish, and ALTA will resume league play for the Summer Leagues,” Depa said.
