Alpharetta and Johns Creek give new meaning to the term "home safe." The cities have been ranked the two safest Atlanta suburbs for families by Movoto, a national real estate brokerage website.

The California firm analyzed data on schools, monthly housing costs, crime rates per 100,000 people, average commute time and other factors for 28 burbs in metro Atlanta. The firm's results gave both communities good marks for low unemployment, a low crime rate, a high level of income and an array of recreational opportunities and events.

Johns Creek drew particular notice for its 10 out of 10 score on the GreatSchools.com rankings, while Alpharetta was lauded for its 6.2 percent unemployment rate and wide variety of housing options. In all, Alpharetta scored the top ranking, with Johns Creek settling in at number two.

In 2014, Movoto ranked Johns Creek as the safest place in Georgia.
