Alpharetta's Department of Public Safety has chalked up a big honor. The Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy Associates named the department the 2015 Agency of the Year.
To win, the agency was judged on three criteria: how well the department presented itself in terms of lending strength, dignity and credit to the law enforcement profession; the impact the department's efforts have had on the Georgia Chapter of the FBI's National Academy Associates; and the positive impacts involving agency programs and services had in the community.
Membership in the FBI's National Academy is by invitation only. Historically only one percent of all law enforcement members are invited to the academy. It functions as a masters' program of sorts for law enforcement executives, enhancing leadership skills and mentoring mid-career law enforcement leaders.
Acknowledging the honor, Gary George, Alpharetta's Director of Public Safety, thanked the FBI Academy, the community of Alpharetta and public safety workers. "I am really grateful for our public safety police officers, firefighters, 911 operators, support staffs and volunteers. They truly make a difference in our community."
