Alpharetta police responding to reports of a threatened suicide shot a woman who had aimed a gun at an officer, a department spokesman said.
Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, a third party caller contacted 911, “requesting assistance to check on a female subject who had sent a text earlier in the day to the caller regarding threats to commit suicide,” Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon said.
Officers and firefighters who went to the home on Woodhaven Way encountered a woman, who, Gordon said, was “emotionally upset.”
Gordon said the woman fled into another part of the house, obtained a firearm “and pointed at one of the police officers, forcing the other officer to fire upon the female to save the officer’s life.”
The wounded woman, identified as 41-year-old Amy Bramuchi, was taken to North Fulton Hospital. Her condition was not immediately available Thursday.
The GBI was called in to investigate the incident and the two involved officers were placed on standard administrative leave.
