Alpharetta Police Explorers win at state competition
The Alpharetta Police Explorers Post 919 scored significant honors recently in the Law Enforcement Explorers Association of Georgia state competition and conference at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.
The Alpharetta group won third-place in a traffic stop competition simulating an officer pulling over a vehicle, investigating and taking appropriate action. The team also took second place in a tabletop exercise set up from the viewpoint of a police commander working a significant breaking incident, and walked away with third place overall.
In addition, one member of the Explorer post was awarded a college scholarship from the statewide group's board.
The Alpharetta Explorers group was formed in 1993, and is designed for both young men and women ages 13 to 20 who learn about such law enforcement topics as SWAT operations, conducting traffic stops, firearms safety, arrest procedures and crime scene investigation. Group members also observe in the department's communications center and ride along with officers on patrol. The post has about 20 active members.
