Acworth police are searching for a man suspected of holding up a credit union branch office Thursday using both a gun and what he claimed was an explosive device.

Officers responded to the Credit Union of Georgia office at 3130 Cobb Parkway for an armed robbery call, Acworth police spokesman Cpl. Stanley Almon said in a news release. When officers arrived, the man had already left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Investigators have released photos of the man taken from the office’s security cameras.

Witnesses told police the man came into the office with a gun, demanding money and claiming he had an explosive device, Almon said. The suspect is described as between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-4. Though he was wearing a mask, police said he had a light-colored beard.

The investigation is ongoing and Acworth police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the man.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Acworth Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 770-974-1232.
