Wedding bells are ringing for “Claws” star Niecy Nash, and, for many, her nuptials represented a simultaneous announcement of Nash’s inclusion in the LGBTQ community.

The 50-year-old posted the announcement of her recent nuptials to Chicago native Jessica Betts to her Instagram Monday. Nash, who has openly supported the LGBTQ community, had not before Monday publicly spoken about her sexual orientation.

She posted a photo of herself in a sleek white gown and veil and her new wife, Betts, sporting a taupe vest and slacks, gray tie and white sneakers. The caption for the announcement read: “Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” along with the hashtag #LoveWins. Nash’s legal name is Carole Denise.

Within an hour, the post received hundreds of congratulatory messages and thousands of likes. Her fans took to Twitter to express shock at the announcement and excitement for Nash, who divorced her husband Jay Tucker earlier this year after eight years of marriage.

Though Betts was a longtime friend of Nash’s, according to previous social posts, many were not aware of their relationship. Betts is a singer and songwriter who has contributed music to the “Get Up” and “Big Momma’s House” soundtrack.

Betts posted a moment from the “Claws” set to her Instagram in 2018, with the caption: “I want to give a special shout to @niecynash1 👽 This woman of God, I’m honored and blessed in her presence. She’s anointed and appointed,” along with video of the pair singing with each other.

In an interview with People in February, Nash spoke about how ending her marriage was difficult due to her family’s beliefs and the “internet’s expectation” of her.

“The untethering from my family’s beliefs, the internet’s expectations and my marriage ending caused me so much pain,” Nash said, recalling how she had told her family, “’But what about my happiness?’ "

Several friends and fans expressed support and love for Nash seeking out her happiness with her new wife.
