An explosion Monday night at a Louisiana chemical plant injured six people but left no one dead, according to reports.

The blast happened at Westlake Chemical’s Petro Complex on State Highway 108 in Lake Charles, KPLC reported.

There was no immediate indication of what might have caused the explosion.

The six injured were not regular employees but contract workers on a turnaround shift meant to prepare the facility for regular operations, KPLC reported, citing a statement by plant spokesman Joe Andrepont.

Each person was transported to local hospitals for treatment, although the extent of their injuries was not clear.

No other casualties were reported, and all other personnel at the facility were said to be OK, according to KPLC.

Louisiana State Police responded to the scene.

The plant, which produces ethylene, was undergoing maintenance at the time of the blast, Andrepont told the station.
