A fifth person was arrested Friday in connection with the shooting death of a 13-year-old Carroll County boy, according to police.

Britannica Turner, 21, of Carrollton, was charged with making false statements, Capt. Chris Dobbs with Carrollton police said.

Turner is the fifth person to face felony charges in the death of Nizzear Rodriguez, who was shot in the head early Sunday as he slept in his bed, hours after celebrating his birthday, police said.

Earlier this week, three suspects were charged with murder in the case. Malik Davis, 17, Kenneth Wheat, 21, and Jackquline Leann Freeman, 24, all of Carrollton, were denied bond in court appearances.

Bond was set at $10,000 for Oleida Ward, 34, of Carrollton, charged with making false statements. Ward, the fourth suspect arrested in the case, was released Friday, jail records show.

Nizzear’s grandmother, Alice Stout-Osorio, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution she has forgiven those believed to be involved with the boy’s death.

But she questioned the bond amount given to Ward, who she thinks should have been treated the same as those charged with murder.

“You’re just as bad as them in my eyesight,” Stout-Osorio said.

The investigation into the boy’s death continues.
