A stretch of Ga. 400 form Ga. 306 north to Ga. 53 in Forsyth and Dawson counties has been named the smoothest roadway statewide.

The Georgia Partnership for Transportation Quality presented the 2014 award after a vehicle-mounted laser assessed the stretch of road. State officials say the nearly nine mile repaving project won in the asphaltic concrete open graded mixture category. Officials say the high smoothness rating will mean longer life and lower maintenance costs.

C.W. Matthews Contracting of Marietta did the repaving under a $3.2 million state contract.
