Some lanes are reopening after a vehicle fire closed I-285 North at I-20 in DeKalb County, causing headaches for nearly three hours during Thursday morning’s commute.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. and affected lanes on I-285 and I-20 East and West exits to the Perimeter’s northbound lanes, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Road workers started opening lanes just before 8 a.m.

Authorities have not said if any injuries have been reported.

Commuters should avoid the area and take Covington Highway or use other alternate routes to get to their destinations.

“That’s going to save you a lot of time this morning to avoid this,” WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reporter Mike Shields said.
