A 16-year-old was shot and killed outside a Family Dollar in Macon when a fight between several people erupted in gunfire, authorities said.

Bibb County deputies responded to the store’s parking lot on Rocky Creek Road about 8:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

“It was reported that there was an altercation between multiple subjects,” deputies said in a news release. “During the physical altercation, an unknown person pulled a gun and fired a shot.”

The teen, identified by the Macon Telegraph as Devaun Patton, was shot once in the abdomen. He was taken to Navicent Health Medical Center, where he died about 10 p.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told the newspaper.

No one else was injured in the shooting, police said. Investigators have not made any arrests in the case or released a description of the suspect.
