Three people are facing charges after one of them hit a deputy in the face at the Coweta County fair last Saturday night after a fight with another group, authorities said.

The 15-year-old who struck the officer faces two felony charges: obstruction and battery on a law enforcement officer. His name was not released.

The incident came after a fight around 8:30 p.m. near the back of the fairgrounds, Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Toby Nix said. Deputies working at the fair were made aware of the fight between two groups. When they went to investigate, the fight had already ended and a group of three were leaving the area, Nix added.

Deputies went to speak to the group but they were “uncooperative” and continued to attempt to leave the area, Nix said. Unable to get information, deputies attempted to detain the three and escort them off the property, he added.

Despite their efforts, the individuals “became combative,” Nix said. That was when Nix said the teenager approached a deputy from behind and struck him in the face.

The 15-year-old was taken to a youth detention center. Another 15-year-old, who also was not named, was charged with misdemeanor obstruction and released to his parents. Dantarius Chunn, 20, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor obstruction of officers.
