Three people, including a 14-year-old girl, are facing aggravated assault charges in connection with a shooting that injured a 13-year-old in Bibb County.
The Bibb sheriff’s office took the teen girl into custody on Saturday, the agency said in a news release. The sheriff’s office also arrested 18-year-olds Rodricko Desie Balkcom Jr., and Jaquez Deshun Brown, both of Macon.
Bibb deputies were sent to a location in the 3300 block of Sherry Drive shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday after a 911 caller reported a shooting, the sheriff’s office said.
According to investigators, the unnamed 14-year-old had gone up to an apartment and asked to talk to a 13-year-old girl who lived there. When the teen was inside the apartment, she and the 13-year-old began fighting, according to the sheriff’s office.
An adult helped the 13-year-old push the teen girl out of the apartment. The 14-year-old then shouted to “several males standing outside the apartment” to shoot, the sheriff’s office said.
The men opened fire on the apartment, and a bullet hit the 13-year-old in the back. She was taken to a hospital, where she was last reported in critical condition. The suspects left the scene before deputies arrived.
It is not clear how the sheriff’s office connected Brown and Balkcom to the shooting. Both men were taken to the Bibb County Jail, where they remain with no bond.
The 14-year-old was taken to the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Bibb sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500.
