A driver was killed in Clayton County on Thursday morning after their car swerved into oncoming traffic and was struck by another vehicle, according to police.

The second driver involved in the collision was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, Clayton County police spokeswoman Officer Halekia Helm said.

Police said the crash happened on Riverdale Road near Flat Shoals Road just after 9 a.m. Investigators said the driver who was killed encountered traffic and slammed on their brakes, causing the car to spin out of control.

The car veered into oncoming traffic and was hit by another car, Helm said.

Police have not released the names of either driver. The crash investigation caused traffic buildups and congestion on Riverdale Road.
