One man was killed and another is in custody following a shooting Saturday afternoon at a luxury apartment building in northeast Atlanta, police said.

Ryan Hendrix, 38, is charged with felony murder in the fatal shooting, which happened at the CB Lofts on Cheshire Bridge Road shortly before 2:30 p.m., Atlanta police spokeswoman Marla Jean Rooker said in an emailed statement.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male in critical condition from a gunshot wound,” she said. The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.

He was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as 33-year-old Nicholas Trexler of Atlanta. Trexler was not a resident of the apartment complex.

Police said Trexler was involved in an argument with a person who worked at the complex prior to his death. The argument led to a single shot being fired, Rooker said.

The gunman, later identified as Hendrix, stayed at the scene of the shooting and was detained by police, Rooker said. Investigators later secured warrants for his arrest.

Hendrix was taken to the Fulton County Jail, where he remains.

The investigation is ongoing. It is the 127th homicide Atlanta police have investigated in 2020, the most in one year since 2007, when there were 129.
