If the new year has you yearning to learn a new skill, Publix Aprons Cooking School is hosting an event with your name on it this weekend — and it’s free of charge.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 5, people with varying cooking skills are invited to stop by the grocer in Alpharetta Commons.

Attendees can sample some food and beverage pairings from upcoming featured classes. Attending a class with Apron’s Cooking School can give home cooks insight into varying in-the-kitchen techniques.

Some courses, like the hands-on class, let guests master various skills under the guidance of instructors. Others, like demonstration classes, allow you and your party to sit back and relax while a chef prepares a meal for you. Guests can also learn how to pair the best beers and wines with their dishes. They can learn tricks of the trade from master chefs or participate in private classes. There are courses for kids and teens, too.

Since it is complimentary, registration is not required for the open house. Cooking classes vary in price and registration is usually needed. Upcoming classes include one on knife skills and a pasta-making workshop.
