This summer, there are several kid-friendly cooking classes and camps options available. Ranging from a few hours to five days, each age appropriate session—for toddlers, pre-teens and teens—will help kids learn basic skills like recipe-reading, measuring ingredients and more. Here are a few places to consider:
Salud! Cooking School Alpharetta: Over the next few weeks, this cooking school located in Whole Foods Market, will offer classes for tots and teens. From 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, children 12 and up and their parents may participate in the Patriotic Picnic for Families class where they will prepare summertime dishes such as caprese Skewers, red, white and blue slaw and bacon-wrapped barbecue hot dogs. From 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, a hands-on Tots: Red, White and Blue class will be offered for children ages 2-5. Accompanied by one parent, tots will be able celebrate the holiday with colorful snacks—and not worry about clean up time; the staff will handle that part.
Young Chefs Academy: The Marietta location offers Camp Can I Cook, cooking camps that allow kids gain culinary skills, learn to prepare cool Treats to beat the heat, dip into chocolate adventures, explore international recipes and simply have fun in the kitchen. Parents may sign their child(ren) up for weekly sessions beginning Monday, June 22 through Monday, August 10. Classes generally begin at 9 a.m. Single classes are available at the Sandy Springs location.

Sur la Table: The Phipps Plaza location will host two five-day series called The Science of Cooking for Kids from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Beginning on Monday, June 29 and July 20, kids ages 8-12 will learn how to mix and make their favorite foods with a twist—since it's science, there will be a little "madness" involved. Fundamentals such as basic knife skills, learning how to read and follow a recipe, measuring and mixing and the importance of kitchen safety will be covered. At the end of the class, students will receive a take-home recipe packet and a Sur la Table apron.
The Cook's Warehouse : Budding bakers will delight in a three-day summer camp called Series Selected: Baking Basics. Campers ages 8-12 will learn mixing techniques as well as how to measure ingredients and monitor temperatures and timing. The course will cover a bevy of baked items ranging from cupcakes to brownies, each with delectable variations. Beverages will be provided, and kids will be able to enjoy their freshly baked goods as a snack or take-home treat.
