Is Provo-Orem, Utah the best place to live in the United Staes? A new survey says yes, it's at the top of the list of communities with the highest level of overall well-being.
Overall well-being includes physical well-being, job satisfaction, goo health habits, community safety and access to food, shelter and health care.
In the Gallup-Healthways survey, the Colorado cities of Boulder and Fort Collins-Loveland came in second and third. Honolulu landed in fourth place, and the northern California community that includes San Jose, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale came in fifth.
So what's so alluring about Provo-Orem? The town lies about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City and is home to more than a half million residents. It's also the home of Mormon-owned Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University and the Sundance Resort. Technology giant Novell is also based in Provo-Orem.
Of the six times this survey has been conducted, Provo-Orem has earned the top slot twice, leading Mayor John Curtis to point out that the ranking is no fluke.
"We're always up there at the top," Curtis says.
