Even when she was selling hand painted sea-shells in India as a child,Boho Gal creator and jewelry designer Shahnaz Hughson had the entrepreneurial spirit and the eye for extraordinary accessories.
Hailing from Mumbai, India and moving to Atlanta 20 years ago for college, she believed this was a bright city. After starting a family here, she knew Atlanta would be the best place to grow and it offered a lot of opportunity. She describes Atlanta as a great city for small business owners.
Hughson decided to start her jewelry line Boho Gal three years ago after seeing all the generic trends and wanting to bring a creative shift. "There was a void in the market for really bold, eclectic, unique -- that real bohemian jewelry and clothing," she said. She filled void with no problem in an area that is growing for handmade artists -- creating rings, bracelets, earrings, and her best selling necklaces.
Boho Gal, a shortened version of "Bohemian Girls," is jewelry designed with the real woman in mind. Hughson describes boho jewelry as "Organic, natural, earthy, very easy to wear," she said.
Her pieces run anywhere from $12-$72 so it fits every budget while still offering statement pieces that will be sure to have people stopping you and asking where you got your fabulous necklace.
Adorned with cultural pendants such as Ethiopian crosses and beads, including Nepalese carved beads, you will get something truly unique to the Atlanta market.
"The jewelry has an Indian, African and an overall international look and feel to it," said Hughson. She designs all of her handmade pieces herself and creates them with a team of women in her Atlanta studio.
With three wholesale showrooms and hundreds of stores nationwide, her growth and success has been amazing. Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar even wore one of her coin necklaces in one of his videos which is one her proudest moments as a designer.
The best thing about her designs is that they fit a variety of styles and moods. Naturally, Boho Gal has spring and summer festivals written all over it. You can make a little splash or a huge statement, depending on your preference. Jazz up any outfit whether you are dressed down to run errands or at the Coachella music festival.
