The Rt. Rev. Foley Beach of Atlanta has been elected archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America.

Beach, who serves a five-year term, succeeds the Most Rev. Robert Duncan, the conservative group’s first archbishop. Duncan will continue as bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh.

The election was held at the end of a three-day conclave in Pennsylvania.

Beach served as the rector and pastor of Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville, from its founding in February 2004 until last December. In 2010, he was consecrated as the first bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the South in the Anglican Church in North America.

He is a graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, the School of Theology at the University of the South and Georgia State University. He and his wife, Allison, have two adult children and live in metro Atlanta.

The Anglican Church in North America consists of 112,000 Anglicans in nearly 1,000 congregations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
