Quote: "Every July 4th morning is like an annual fitness check-up for me."
Occupation: Agent with New York Life
Age: 49
Residence: Woodstock
Number of Peachtrees: This will be my 18th.
Why do you run? I do not run regularly, but try to stay fit. I enjoy the fact that the race covers the same course each year, and I can measure my personal performance against previous year's. Guess it's just a way of confirming that I'm still in the game.
Why did you start running? In 1992, I was invited to watch the race from a friend's condo in Buckhead. As I sipped a mimosa, I watched the endless stream of runners pass by me. I decided that I would never be on the sidelines again. I wanted to be in the race.
When was your first Peachtree? In 1993, I thankfully finished my first Peachtree. I had not run more than 2.5 miles in any training run, so I was very happy to be in Piedmont Park after the race rather than Piedmont Hospital.
What is your favorite story? It's an amazing event and part of Atlanta culture. I love being part of the scene.
What advice do you have for new runners? Cut across every corner possible. I realized years ago that the wide street allows you to hug the inside of each curve and slice time off your race.
What is your favorite race T-shirt? 2004 is my favorite by far. I love its classic "old school" look.
Do you run alone or in a pack? I go to and from the race with friends, but we all run alone.
What do you like about the race? The crowd support, the atmosphere, the consistent course, the giant number of racers and the tradition.
Would you make any changes? It's impossible to change now, but it was better when the concrete islands were not in the middle of the road. Oh, and it would be great if we could eliminate the "cheaters" that jump into the race from the sidewalks over the first few miles.
Do you have a favorite spot on the course? I love the flat area in midtown the last few blocks before the 10th Street turn. You know the hard part is over and the crowd is cheering you on there. I love giving high fives to little kids along the way.
Do you have a song you like to listen to to get you pumped up? I like Nickelback's "Rockstar" and Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell."
What's your favorite meal to eat before the race? Spaghetti.
