Father’s Day is fast approaching. If you’re still searching for a gift, think twice about buying another soap-on-a-rope or crazy SpongeBob tie he’ll never wear. If you really want to make pop’s day, give him the best gift of all — your time. Here’s a quick round-up of some activities happening around the Dayton area on Sunday.

BRUNCHING DAD

Obvious gift: Hit Bob Evans, Frisch's or one of the other chain restaurants in the area. But be advised there could be long waits in some of these mainstream eateries.

Creative alternative: Get a taste of downtown at several places offering brunch deals on Father's Day. Blind Bob's, 430 E. Fifth St., and Dublin Pub, 300 Wayne Ave., both begin serving brunch at 11 a.m., or you can try the brunch buffet at Dayton Woman's Club, 225 N. Ludlow St., beginning at 11:30 a.m. Call Blind Bob's at (937) 938-6405, Dublin Pub at (937) 224-7822 and Dayton Women's Club at (937) 228-1124.

SPORTING DAD

Obvious gift: A trip to the ball field. The Dayton Dragons wrap a three-game homestand against the Lansing Lugnuts at Fifth Third Field, 220 N. Patterson Blvd., at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Cost: $7 general admission lawn, $15 box, field, plaza and premier levels. Call (937) 228-BATS (2287) or visit www.daytondragons.com.

Creative alternative: Rent Rollerblades, bicycles, tandem bikes, child trailers, child trail-a-bikes and child seats at Ride the River Rentals at RiverScape MetroPark, 111 E. Monument Ave., Dayton. Open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Prices vary. Call (937) 278-2607 or visit www.metroparks.org.

MOVIE DAD

Obvious gift: Hit the multiplex and take in one of the current crop of summer popcorn flicks, such as "X-Men: First Class," "Green Lantern" or "Super 8."

Creative alternative: Pack up the car Saturday night and catch one of these same flicks alfresco at one of the region's drive-in theaters. Melody 49 Twin Drive-In, 7606 Pleasant-Plain Road, in Clayton. For show times, call (937) 833-5015; Dixie Twin Drive-In, 6201 N. Dixie Road, Dayton.
