According to Livestrong, there are several common running mistakes people make, such as increasing mileage too quickly, not warming up with dynamic stretching, wearing the wrong shoes or even over-training.

Business Insider put together a video above with some quick ways to improve your form and avoid injury, whether you're a beginner or an expert in the sport.

Start with checking your step frequency and making sure you’re taking 160-180 strides per minute.

Running too slow (which most Americans do) can actually be harmful.

Next, note the location of your feet. According to the video, your leading foot shouldn’t fall too far in front of you. Otherwise, your momentum could slow down.

Hitting the ground the right way is also crucial to avoid injury. Landing midfoot or forefront places less impact on the joints, whereas heel strikes could be harmful in the long term.
