Travel + Leisure, a lifestyle publication, recently released its "50 Best Places to Travel in 2019" list. To compile the round-up, its staffers mulled over press releases, tourism statistics, hotel openings, restaurant debuts and new flight routes from across the globe. They also consulted hospitality professionals and travel advisors.
After analyzing the results, they determined Georgia was one of the best travel destinations in the world.
"With so much happening in the Peach State, Georgia should be on the mind of any savvy traveler these days," the authors wrote.
The team highlighted metro Atlanta, listing Ponce City Market in Midtown, Local Pizzaiolo in Downtown and Masterpiece in Duluth as restaurant hot spots. They also praised Hotel Clermont for its rooftop bar, and the Beltline for its bike- and walk-friendly trails.
The magazine also applauded Savannah. It was especially impressed by the city's new hotel openings, including The Alida and Perry Lane. When it came to food, the writers raved about Grey Market, "a hybrid of New York-style bodega and Southern lunch counter."
Overall, Georgia was one of the nine U.S. places named, along with Houston, The Grand Canyon and The Florida Keys.
