Football legend Vince Dooley said Friday he was briefly in Nice on his way to a family vacation.

The former football coach and athletic director of the University of Georgia said he and other family members took a flight into that French city about eight or 10 days ago before heading to Monte Carlo go on a cruise.

He said he didn't spend any time in the city, but being there just ahead of a terrorist attack that killed 84 people and injured scores more was unnerving.

“Sometime like that always grabs your attention, but when it happens and you could have easily been involved it makes you think,” he said.

The trip included about 19 members of his extended family.
