Following news that streaming hit “Squid Games” was renewed for a second season, Netflix has announced they’ll be launching a real-life reality game show based on the Korean thriller.

“Squid Games: The Challenge” will feature 456 contestants competing for a $4.56 million cash prize through a series of games inspired by the original show.

“Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of unscripted and documentary series, said in a press release.

The 10-episode competition series was filmed in the UK and is a co-production of Studio Lambert, which produced “The Circle” and “The Garden.”

“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end,” added Reigg.

“Squid Games” holds the record for the most popular Netflix series of all time, with over 1.65 billion streaming hours in the first month after its 2021 premiere.

The competition show will debut on Netflix on November 22.
