British actor and director Lord Richard Attenborough has died at 90 years old.
Modern audiences may remember him best as the eccentric billionaire in "Jurassic Park" or Santa in the '90s remake of "Miracle on 34th Street."
But Attenborough began his acting career more than seven decades ago with his first role in "In Which We Serve."
He went on to play roles in countless other films, as well as forming his own production company and becoming a prominent director.
Attenborough won an Academy Award for best director for his 1982 film "Ghandi."
Following the news of his death, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts released a statement saying, "Lord Attenborough occupies a special place in the hearts of so many and will be missed enormously."
Prime Minister David Cameron remembered Attenborough's work on "Brighton Rock" and "Ghandi," and journalist Piers Morgan called him "a true legend of the screen and a delightful man."
Attenborough spent the last few years in a nursing home with his wife.
He's survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren.
