Prince had a secret vault filled with never-released music

But this might give fans something to look forward to: The icon has a secret vault filled with thousands of unreleased songs.

The BBC released a documentary about the vault in 2015.BBC

reporter Mobeen Azhar usually covers hard-hitting news, focusing on topics like terrorism, drug trafficking and gay rights. But according to Vice, he is also a huge Prince fan, seeing the star perform at least 53 times.

Azhar interviewed musicians, singers and a sound engineer who worked closely with Prince. They all confirmed the existence of the fabled vault.

They say it’s a physical bank-style vault with an enormous door that sits in Paisley Studios on Prince’s estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Those close to Prince say recording music was second-nature to Prince. He recorded songs daily, and many of them never made it on an album.

“If he was awake, as long as he wasn’t on the phone and handling business, for the most part, Prince was recording,” said Susan Rogers, former Sound Engineer for Prince. “I’ve never known anyone else like that.”

Rogers started the vault when she first started working with Prince. Everything he recorded, whether it was on an album or not, was stored in the vault.

Rogers said one of his most beautiful song has never been released.

“It was a song called ‘Moonbeam Levels,'” recalled Rogers. “To this day it remains one of my favorite Prince songs. So beautiful! Occasionally when we were sequencing records we would put that song into the sequence, and I’m thinking, ‘At last! I’m so happy. This beautiful song is going on this record.’ But he would pull it. He would always pull it,” said Rogers.

Those close to Prince say they have no idea what Prince was planning on doing with those thousands of unreleased records.

“Maybe he’s just waiting for the right time,” speculated Sonny Thompson, bass guitarist. “Maybe he wants to show other generations something that he did now something that could be relevant for that next generation.”

Thompson said there is so much music in the vault, there is no way for everyone to hear all the music inside.

“…I think if you could (get access to the vault) you would probably be sitting there for 10 years,” laughed Thompson.

Now that Prince has passed, we’re left wondering … Will we ever get a chance to hear those never-released records?

Knowing the magical nature of Prince, we’re sure he has a plan up his sleeve, even after his death.
