Here’s … The Shining! Movie back in theaters for pre-Halloween run

So you think Jack Nicholson’s crazed leer in “The Shining” is scary on TV? Just imagine it plastered 50 feet-wide onscreen in a pitch-dark movie theater.

Good — gulp! — news. You don't have to now. Just in time for Halloween, Turner Classic Movies is bringing the 1980 horror classic back to theaters. The Atlanta-based network has teamed up with Fathom Events (the same folks behind those "The Met: Live in HD opera screenings) to help scare the bejezzus out of folks in select theaters for two days only.

Based on a novel by Steven King and directed by Stanley Kubrick, “The Shining” starred Nicholson as the increasingly spooked and spooky new caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel. How spooky? Two words: “Heeeeere’s Johnny!”

“TCM Big Screen Classics: ‘The Shining’” will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 23 and Wednesday Oct. 26. The screenings will also include commentary by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz.

Among the metro Atlanta theaters participating are Hollywood 24 in Chamblee, Barrett Commons 14 in Kennesaw, Avalon 12 in Alpharetta, Sugarloaf Mills 18 in Lawrenceville. A complete list of theaters and tickets are available at www.fathomevents.com.
