Here are five fast facts about Mickey Mouse, according to The Walt Disney Family Museum:

1. Mickey wasn't Walt Disney's first creation. He actually was a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. But when Walt lost the rights to the rabbit character to Universal, he and another animator Ub Iwerks came up with Mickey.

2. Mickey wasn't always Mickey. He was first named Mortimer. But Walt's wife Lillian didn't like the name and suggested Mickey.

3. While "Steamboat Willie" was the first synchronized sound cartoon on the big screen for full distribution, it actually wasn't the first drawn cartoon. "Plane Crazy" and "The Gallopin' Gaucho" were actually drawn before Steamboat and had small screenings.

4. Walt was the first voice of Mickey Mouse. He also gave Minnie her voice.

5. Nov. 18 is also the "birthday" of other famous Disney characters. Minnie and Pegleg Pete were also in the "Steamboat Willie" cartoon. His friends, Pluto, Goofy and Donald wouldn't come on the scene until the 1930s.
