Tom Hamlin, one of the more famous Dayton sports broadcasters, died Thursday night in Kettering. He was 88.

“Tom was a true professional,” said WHIO’s Bucky Bockhorn, the longtime analyst on UD basketball radio broadcasts. “He got me my start in radio in 1969. He had good credentials. He got the job done. There’s no doubt about that.”

A Carlisle, Ohio, native, Hamlin graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1951. He began his broadcasting career in 1953 in Lima and later worked in Birmingham, Ala., covering Auburn sports.
